Jorga's Story - Update

We Catch Up With Jorga To Find Out What She's Been Up To In The Years Following Her Evac To Brisbane's Mater Hospital

Jorga Was Born Seven Weeks Premature And Diagnosed With Truncux Arteriosus

After close to six months in hospital we finally bought Jorja home on oxygen, saturated oxygen monitor and NGT feeds she was 3 days short of six months old. Even though the first few months were tiresome as she was starting to get more mobile so she would pull the NGT out several times a day and we would have to reinsert it (which broke our hearts every time).

Slowly she got strong enough to go on bottle and solid feeds much to our delight.  During the winter months we have to limit Jorja’s contact with other children due to the increased infection risk. So during winter there is a lot of visiting local open area parks (no play gyms) and shopping is only done when Daddy is home from work as we can’t take her to shopping complexes.

Now that summer is upon us the shops and play gyms are a whole new and exciting world to Jorja. Our paediatrician has advised us if someone has obvious coughs/colds etc to stay away still, but it is a whole new level of freedom.

Jorja is now over 2 years old, running around, eating us out of house and home, and starting to talk and has become a big sister to Alysia born the day after Jorja’s 2nd birthday. Jorja has regular cardiology appointments at Perth’s Princess Margaret Hospital; her cardiologist is still happy with Jorjas primary surgery and happy with all pressures within her heart. He is predicting her next surgery to be when she is between the ages of 3-4 which will be to replace the initial conduit (calf’s jugular).

She is developing into such a beautiful little girl, and amazing us daily as within that first six months we would never have thought these days would come. We feel so blessed to now have 2 beuatuiful little girls who are going to grow up being the best of mates.
